This piece of Morenci Turquoise from The Family Stone was mined in Morenci, Arizona. The turquoise was a byproduct of the copper mining operation located there.
This cabochon is a really pretty “Robin’s Egg” blue with a matrix created by iron pyrite, making the surface look like little silver mirrors! It is set atop of two hand hammered cuffs along with little pea sized spheres, really cute.
The mine in Greenlee County is now closed and the remaining turquoise is buried under tons of rock, very sad! So now Morenci Turquoise becomes rarer and more valuable with time.
